One Family Butchery, Four Dublin Steakhouses
Pembroke Street, Temple Bar, Bull & Castle and Monkstown all serve the same dry-aged Buckley beef.
The Buckley family has been butchering beef in Dublin since 1930, when they opened a shop on Moore Street. It took until 1987 for that trade to turn into a restaurant, when F.X. Buckley opened its doors on Pembroke Street as the group’s flagship. Three more rooms followed over the years: Temple Bar on Crow Street, Monkstown on the coast in 1993, and Bull & Castle opposite Christ Church Cathedral. Every one of them dry-ages Irish beef on the bone for a minimum of 28 days, cut by the same family butchery. Below are all four, with opening hours, ratings and a link through to the full profile for each.

F.X. Buckley Group FAQs
How many F.X. Buckley steakhouses are there in Dublin?
Four. Pembroke Street is the original, opened in 1987. Temple Bar sits on Crow Street, Bull & Castle is in Christchurch, and Monkstown is on the coast between Blackrock and Dún Laoghaire. All four share the same family butchery and the same 28-day dry-ageing standard.
Which is the original F.X. Buckley steakhouse?
Pembroke Street. It opened in 1987 as the group’s flagship, built on a butchery business the Buckley family started on Moore Street back in 1930.
Is Bull & Castle part of F.X. Buckley?
Yes. It’s owned by the same family and butcher, and it dry-ages its steaks to the same 28-day standard as the other three rooms. Locally it trades under its own name, Bull & Castle, rather than the F.X. Buckley name.
Which F.X. Buckley location is best for a pre-theatre dinner?
Temple Bar. It’s the closest room to Dublin’s main theatres, serves in an open-kitchen setting, and gets a steady flow of diners heading to a show afterward.
Which F.X. Buckley does seafood as well as steak?
Monkstown. It keeps the same dry-aged Buckley steaks on the menu and adds a full seafood list too, including oysters shucked at the bar and lobster thermidor, which suits its coastal setting.
Do all four locations serve the same steak?
Yes. Every room is supplied by the Buckley family’s own butchery and dry-ages its beef on the bone for at least 28 days. What changes from room to room is the wider menu: seafood at Monkstown, a craft beer list at Bull & Castle.
Which F.X. Buckley has the highest ratings?
Temple Bar leads on Tripadvisor with 4.6 stars from 3,386 reviews and a 2025 Travellers’ Choice award. Pembroke Street and Temple Bar are neck and neck on OpenTable, both at 4.8 stars.
